70 Billion ‘Smart’ Devices by 2020 – The New Wild West for Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities and Liability
Tuesday, October 29 at 4:30 p.m.

The MIRAI botnet and SamSam and WannaCry ransomware attacks are the poster children for the ongoing spread of cybersecurity vulnerability exploits facing the nation’s corporate infrastructure. These attack modalities are both commercialized and commoditized as “crime-as-a-service” aimed at compromising smart devices, the connected devices that make up the Internet of Things. Widespread proliferation of insecure, poorly secured, or just plain unsecurable smart devices exposes an organization to civil, regulatory, and potential criminal liability arising from domestic laws and regulations such as HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and state data breach and privacy protection laws in the United States.as well as the United Kingdom and the many European countries belonging to the European Economic Area, due to the UK's Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation. Experts from the legal and technology arenas will discuss the current state of end-point devices, current and future security threats, litigation strategies, and trends.
