Urban Wood Network
The Urban Wood Network (UWN) is a national association that works to inform, collaborate and connect to build business and consumer confidence in the urban wood industry. UWN members include municipalities, government agencies, arborists, sawmills, woodworkers and other stakeholders in the United States, plus Canada and other countries. The UWN was established in 2017 and has since grown to over 100 members across twenty states with established chapters in Wisconsin and the Western Region. Several new state chapters are currently in development. Members from across the country are dedicated to building urban wood businesses and promoting urban wood utilization. UWN is committed to the ideal that urban trees benefit their communities most when they are growing and healthy, but that their wood should be utilized to its highest use to maximize economic, environmental and societal benefits for urban communities when they have to be removed due to death, disease, pests, development or circumstance. Trees removed from American urban areas could produce nearly 4 billion board feet of lumber annually, providing a tremendous amount of wood resources to be used in furniture, flooring, and other manufacturing, as well as in construction and artisan pieces.
