igus® GmbH, based in Cologne, Germany, has been manufacturing engineered plastics for more than 50 years, and develops each of the engineered plastic materials and all technology behind its products. igus® Inc. was founded in Rhode Island 30 years ago in 1985, and moved to a new 157,500 square foot location in Rumford in 2013. Today, igus® Inc. employs more than 280 individuals; 170 in Rhode Island, of which 85 are production related employees. igus® also employs a total of 85 outside sales representative located across the North America for quick one-on-one service for our customers. Our business is centered around four main product lines that focus on the idea of “Motion Plastics.” igus®’ lines of Energy Chain® cable carrier systems, Chainflex® continuous-flex cables, iglide® self-lubricating bearings, and drylin® linear bearings and guides, all utilize igus®’ own proprietary plastic materials, and are extensively tested at what is possibly the world’s largest plastic components test laboratory in Germany. Data from these tests are compiled into online tools and calculators to help customers to specify the best material and part for their specific application, as well as provide accurate service life calculators based on use in real-world applications and environments. igus® components are used in a vast range of industries, including machine tools, automotive manufacturing, aerospace, food and beverage packaging, laboratory equipment, and offshore equipment. With over 28,000 products available from stock in our Rhode Island warehouse facility, we are able to provide customers with the components they need extremely quickly and efficiently. Our lean processes and components inventory enables up to 97 percent of orders to be shipped within 24 hours. Our team of sales engineers is available from 8 AM to 5 PM, coast to coast. Complimentary online CAD files, extensive free product samples, and a range of online tools also separate igus® from its competitors.
