I'm presenting at ObesityWeek®!
Dr. Maria Daniela Hurtado Andrade, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor
Mayo Clinic
In medical school, my curiosity about the control of food intake led me to pursue doctorate-level training in Physiology and Pharmacology. My research team discovered that gut peptide PYY is not only secreted into plasma but also into saliva and reduces fat taste sensitivity, therefore decreasing fat intake. The results of my research suggested a promising alternative therapy to treat obesity in humans and inspired me to pursue further training in endocrinology and metabolism. During and after fellowship, my research and clinical interests evolved to developing an individualized, yet holistic approach to the management of obesity and its complications. This approach considers genetic, social, clinical, and biochemical patient characteristics, many of which have yet to be identified or characterized. To achieve my goal, I joined the Mayo Clinic Precision Medicine for Obesity Program. My long-term research and clinical interests involve characterizing and addressing factors that are important for successful weight loss therapies in women across their lifespan, with a focus on the perimenopausal period.
I'll be presenting at ObesityWeek this November.
I look forward to connecting with you at ObesityWeek!
