Union League Golf Club located in Philadelphia, PA is looking to mentor and advance a self-driven professional within our unique culture and agronomy team as an Assistant Superintendent.
Our Turf Team at Union League is comprised of a cohesive group of motivated professionals that inspire to become Golf Course Superintendents. Director of Agronomy, Scott Bordner and Golf Course Superintendent, Andrew Dooley, take our team's success and progressive growth in the industry very seriously. We have had 2 Assistants move into Superintendent positions in the last 12 months at top tier facilities on the east coast, creating internal upward movement.

The position is available to begin on August 1st, 2023.

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF THE POSITION:
- Learn the culture - The Assistant Superintendent ensures the proper training and evaluation of their staff to deliver the best possible member experience.
- Leads daily operations from cultural practices, applications, daily operations and crew management.
- Desires to accelerate their career specifically as it relates to crew management, project management and working for a premier club culture.
- Participates in administrative and human resource functions for staff including interviewing, and training. Develops, manages and directs a specific training program for all grounds equipment operators.
- Enforces appropriate safety regulations with regard to equipment operation and chemical application. Maintains appropriate licenses and certifications as required by law. Maintains accurate records.
UPCOMING PROJECTS:
- 9 Hole Par 3 Course currently under construction. Opens in spring 2024. Warm season (Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass) fairways and tees, bentgrass (L93XD, Coho, Piranha) USGA variable depth greens.
- Golf learning center slated for construction in 2025-2026.
- Phase 1 maintenance (new offices, break room, locker room, equipment storage) facility completed in 2022.
- Phase 2 maintenance includes state-of-art plant management facility, equipment wash building, fuel station, material storage and equipment storage) slated for construction in 2026-2027.
- 1920 - 18 hole Donald Ross Championship Golf Course with Master Plan guidance from Andrew Green. Anticipating complete restoration slated for 2028-2029.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Salary - $45,000-$70,000 dependent on experience
- Health insurance - dental, vision, medical
- Housing will be available in September
- 401K with company automatically contributing 3% and then will match up to an additional 3%
- Company will pay up to $5,000 annually towards continued education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-4 years of progressive experience in the turfgrass maintenance industry with at least 1 year of supervisory experience
- High School Diploma with certificate or degree in Turfgrass Science or comparable program
- Must obtain and maintain a PA Pesticide Applicator’s License 90 days following hire date
